Hello everyone,

In December 2012 I did the last concert of a stage that lasted seven years. Years that exceeded my expectations. That day was the end of something and the beginning of something different.

I began to listen to music I had never heard before, I began having new conversations, living
different stories. The past was not chasing me anymore, nor was I chasing it. That feeling was liberating but also intimidating. The expectation and perfectionism had taken my freedom to make music away. And after that concert, almost four years ago, little by little, things began to change.

You have been with me every single day without even knowing it. When I say 'you' I mean those who have been following me from the first day, those who have my albums and listen to them occasionally, those who remember me with nostalgia, and I also mean the new ones who are yet to come. You fill my spirit with energy, help me to be brave and take risks. To know that the best is yet to come. You have been my inspiration.

It has been a process of discovery. Looking forward and not backward, I rented a rehearsal room for bands and transformed it into a recording studio – a home studio, of course. I spent as many hours as I could in this room, with a new approach: the songs already exist. My job was not to create them but to collect them. To capture them. My job was not to judge them, but to accept them as they come, and to love them. Every day I sat at the piano or with my guitar, always with my recorder ready, to see what happened. No judgments, no expectations. They could be songs for an album or not.

I spent a whole year like this, 2014. Gradually I began to see that even though I was creating different things, some common elements began to show up. I was writing in English. Again, freedom and fear.

I kept taking steps and came to Madrid in April 2015, to start again. During this time, I've selected the songs that got stuck in my mind the most. Have gone through a listening, planning process. By now I already knew I needed to create an album and that this album would be called Quantum.

All this long journey brings me here. Many more things that would not fit here have happened and it's better this way, because music has the power to communicate beyond all I could say. But I'm ready now to get into the studio to record. I played the music I had been working on to Paco Salazar (producer, musician) and he connected with the project from the very beginning. We have already selected the songs, and know the direction this work has to take.

But I still need another help, the most important one: your help.

↓ What is Crowdfunding and why have I decided to do it ↓

That's why I've decided to take this step of undertaking a crowdfunding campaign. A crowdfunding project means to sponsor an idea that has not been created yet, that needs the help of many people to become a reality. In return for that help, the people who collaborate will receive a series of rewards depending on how much they can support the recording of thie album. I think doing this is what makes more sense at this point. After all, it has always has always been this way: as an artist, without you I am nothing. It only happens that instead of sharing only on live performances, now we can start doing it much earlier, so that this project is not just mine but of all those who wish to involve in it even before recording process starts.

Obviously a campaign of this kind entails some risks, one of them being that if we do not reach the amount needed to complete the project, all the money would be refunded to those who have contributed and Quantum will not be carried out. This is a matter of all or nothing. It is therefore important that if you like the project, you share it with whoever you think might like it. Another risk is that there could be delays due to mishaps that may arise. The album is scheduled for November 2016. However, this date may change (I hope not more than a couple of weeks) due to difficulties that may arise. That's why I created a web blog so that those who decide to collaborate will be able to follow the whole recording process: http://www.sergiorivero.com. When the campaign finishes, I will send an email with a password so that you can follow the recording process as closely as you want. One of the rewards is, upon the completion of the album, we will print a book with the blog posts, exclusive photos (and something more) so you have it, with a dedication included, of course ;-)

There are many more rewards depending on how much you all want and can help. I've put a lot of thought into this too. It's all well explained in the column labelled as 'Rewards' on the right of this page. And although I hope that the rewards are fair, if we fulfill this challenge together, there will be nothing to thank you for so much support.
